How do I select a single to-do?

CMD + Click anywhere on the to-do's row (on its text or empty part — not on the round checkbox, the trash can, the date chip, or the drag handle). The row turns a soft green with a green stripe down its left edge. Clicking one to-do selects only that one; if you had others selected, they're cleared first.

How do I select several to-dos at once?

Three ways: (1) Hold Cmd and click each to-do — this adds them one by one, and clicking an already-selected one removes it. (2) Click the first to-do, then hold Shift and click another — everything between the two gets selected as a range. (3) Click on empty space and drag a box (a "marquee") over the rows to lasso them all at once.

It adds or removes one to-do from your current selection without disturbing the rest. Cmd-click (Mac) a row to add it; click it again to take it back out. This is how you build up a selection of scattered to-dos.

Shift-click selects a whole range in one go. Click one to-do to set the starting point, then hold Shift and click another further down (or up) — every to-do between those two, plus both ends, becomes selected. It's the quickest way to grab a run of consecutive items.

How does the drag-to-select box (marquee) work?

Press the mouse button on empty space (or on the body of a row) and drag — a translucent green box appears, and every row it touches gets selected. Release to lock it in. You need to move at least a few pixels for it to count as a drag; a tiny movement is treated as a normal click. Hold Shift while dragging to ADD the lassoed rows to what you already had selected.

What does "Select all" do and where is it?

"Select all" sits at the right-hand side of the list header whenever the view has selectable to-dos. Click it to select every to-do in that folder — it even reveals hidden completed items and opens collapsed groups so nothing's missed. Once everything's selected the link flips to "Deselect all".

Yes. "Select all" reveals hidden completed items and expands every collapsed group first. With the marquee and Shift/Cmd-click you can only catch rows currently visible on screen, so expand groups or show completed items first if you want to include them.

How do I clear my selection / deselect everything?

Any of these work: press Esc; click the ✕ on the selection bar; click "Deselect all" in the list header; click empty space in the to-do area; or click into the sidebar (e.g. switch lists). Switching views, searching, or clicking away from the app window also drop the selection.

What is the floating bar that appears at the bottom when I select things?

That's the selection bar (a "pill"). It pops up near the bottom of the window whenever you have at least one to-do selected. It shows a count ("3 selected") and one-tap bulk actions: Check all, Uncheck all, Date, Push, Move, Delete, and an ✕ to clear. Each action applies to every selected to-do, then clears the selection.

How do I mark several to-dos done (or not done) at once?

Select them, then click "Check all" to tick them complete, or "Uncheck all" to mark them not done. Only the ones that need changing are touched, and the selection clears afterward. Tip: clicking the round checkbox on a row that's part of a selection ticks (or unticks) the whole selection in one go.

Select them, then click "Delete" in the bottom bar. You'll be asked to confirm once for the whole group (it tells you how many). Confirm, and they're all deleted together. Clicking the trash icon on a row that's part of a selection deletes the whole selection too.

How do I move several to-dos to a different list?

Select them, click "Move", and the app drops into a list-picking mode — the lists in the sidebar get an orange outline and a "Select a list" prompt appears. Click the list (or Inbox) you want, and all the selected to-dos move there. Click Cancel, press Esc, or click elsewhere in the sidebar to back out.

How do I set or clear a due date on several to-dos at once?

Select them and click "Date". One date picker opens; the date you choose is applied to every selected to-do, or clearing the date removes it from all of them. A short message confirms how many were updated.

How do I push several to-dos at once, and why is "Push" sometimes missing from the bar?

Accepted Answer

Select them and click "Push" — they're sent one after another to your connected apps (respecting each list's chosen apps), with a progress message. Anything that can't be pushed is skipped (items still saving, already pushed, or in a locked list). Push only appears when your selection is entirely free of locked-list items and contains at least one pushable to-do — if even one selected to-do is in a padlocked list, Push hides completely. Remove it and Push reappears.

Can I drag a whole selection to another list?

Yes. If you've selected several to-dos and drag one by its handle, the entire selection comes along and drops together as one block. Only the selected items that share the same list and the same done/not-done state as the one you grabbed move with it, keeping their relative order. (The "Move" button is often easier.)

Why is the "Move" button missing from the selection bar?

Moving to another list doesn't make sense in the Completed view or the Pushed (Synced) folder, so the Move button is hidden in those views. It's available in your normal lists and Inbox.

Question 17

I selected some to-dos and then clicked a list in the sidebar — why did my selection disappear?

Accepted Answer

Clicking into the sidebar (to switch lists, open Settings, etc.) is treated as moving on, so it clears your selection. If you wanted to move the selected items to that list, use the "Move" button in the bottom bar instead, which puts the sidebar into list-picking mode without losing your selection.

Why can't I select rows in the Pushed/Synced folder or locked lists?

Only normal to-do rows can be selected. Locked rows and rows in the Synced (Pushed) folder aren't selectable — they have no drag handle and are marked as locked — so clicks, Shift/Cmd-clicks, and the marquee all skip them. This keeps you from accidentally bulk-editing items meant to stay put. ---
