Where do I change how often the app checks my Supernote and pushes to my task apps?

It has two cards: "Device & cloud sync" controls how often the app checks your Supernote for changes, and "Push to task apps" controls when your tasks are handed off to apps like Todoist. Each card has a Manual/Auto toggle, an "Every [number] [minutes/hours]" stepper (shown only in Auto), and a "Sync now" / "Push now" button. Below them, the "Active hours" card sets the days and times when those Auto schedules are allowed to run.

What's the difference between syncing and pushing?

Syncing is the two-way conversation with your Supernote: tasks you add, edit, complete, reorder or re-file on either side show up on the other. Pushing is a separate, one-way hand-off: it copies an open task once into a connected task app (like Todoist) and then leaves it alone. Syncing keeps things matched; pushing sends a copy out. They have separate schedules in the Scheduling section.

What does Manual vs Automatic push do?

In Auto, eligible open tasks are handed off to your connected apps on a repeating timer (the push interval), within your Active hours. In Manual, nothing is pushed automatically — tasks only go out when you press "Push now" (or push a single list, a selection, or one task). Each task is still only ever pushed once, regardless of mode.

Can I control when the Auto schedules are allowed to run?

Yes — that's the "Active hours" card in the Scheduling section. Relay's Auto schedules run inside a window you set: pick the days of the week and a start and end time, and the repeating sync and push timers stay quiet outside it. Out of the box the window is Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:30 — working hours — so Relay isn't checking an untouched Supernote at three in the morning. Change the days or times to suit; an overnight window (say 20:00 to 02:00) works too, and belongs to the day it starts on.

Do manual Sync and Push work outside Active hours?

Always. Active hours only governs the repeating Auto timers. Pressing Sync now or Push now (or pushing a list, a selection, or a single task) works at any hour on any day — and the app still checks once when you open it, so it never looks stale.

Can Relay run around the clock?

If you want that: select all seven day chips and set the start and end time to the same value — that's a full-day window, every day. There's deliberately no single "always on" switch; most people don't need their Supernote checked while they sleep.

Does sync ever turn off completely?

Accepted Answer

No. Two-way sync with your Supernote is always available — the Scheduling section only sets how often — and, via Active hours, when — it runs on its own. Even with both sync and push set to Manual, the app still checks once when it starts and before any push, and Sync now works any time; it just won't run a repeating background timer.

If I set both sync and push to Manual, will anything happen automatically?

No repeating background timer runs in that case. The app checks once when it opens, and after that nothing syncs or pushes on its own until you press the buttons (a manual push still syncs first). If either sync OR push is set to Auto, the repeating timer comes back on (within your Active hours).

What's the difference between "Sync now" and "Push now"?

"Sync now" forces an immediate check of your Supernote and updates your task list. "Push now" first syncs, then hands off every eligible open task to your connected apps. Use "Sync now" just to refresh; use "Push now" to send tasks out on demand.

How short can I make the check interval?

The smallest interval you can usefully set is 1 minute; the app enforces a 1-minute floor on the check rate internally. The interval you choose is the whole story — the app checks at the same rate whether the window is in front or in the background, so pick a rate that suits how fresh you need things.

No — the app checks at the same rate whether the window is in front, in the background, or minimized. It syncs only on your schedule, once at launch, and when you press Sync now; bringing the window forward deliberately doesn't trigger anything. If you want changes to show up right away, press Sync now.

Why won't the app let me set the push interval shorter than the sync interval?

Accepted Answer

Every push starts by syncing first, so the app can't push more often than it syncs. If you type a push interval shorter than your sync interval, the field snaps up to match (it flashes amber for a moment to show it adjusted). This only applies when sync is Auto; if sync is Manual there's no floor.

Can I set the interval in hours instead of minutes?

Yes. Each card's stepper has a unit dropdown — choose minutes or hours next to the number. For example you can check every 2 hours, or push every 30 minutes. If you set a round number of hours it's stored that way; otherwise it's stored in minutes.

Do my schedule changes take effect right away?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As soon as you change a mode or interval, the app re-derives its timing and re-arms immediately, so the "Next sync in…" / "Next push in…" countdowns in the sidebar update right away. You don't need to restart the app.

Question 15

I can't see the Push card controls — it just says set up a task app. Why?

Accepted Answer

The push schedule only appears once you've connected at least one task app (like Todoist). Until then the Push card shows a "Set up a task app" button instead of the Manual/Auto controls. Connect an app in the Task apps section, then come back and the push schedule will be configurable.

What triggers a sync besides the timer?

Accepted Answer

A sync happens when: the app first opens; the repeating timer fires (Auto only, within your Active hours); you press "Sync now"; a push runs (a push always syncs first); and shortly after the app writes a change (it re-checks about 0.6 seconds later to confirm the change settled). Bringing the window to the front or waking your Mac deliberately doesn't trigger one — sync sticks to your schedule.

What triggers a push besides the timer?

In Auto mode, a push rides along on a sync — after each scheduled check completes, eligible tasks are handed off (no more often than your push interval allows). You can also push at any time manually: "Push now" for everything, or push just one list, a multi-selection, or a single task. A manual push always syncs first, then sends.

I just turned on Auto push — when does the first push happen?

Turning push to Auto schedules the hand-off for the next check, so it kicks in on the upcoming poll rather than waiting a full interval (outside your Active hours it runs as soon as the window next opens). The app resets its push timer the moment you switch it on.

Where do I see when the next sync or push will happen?

The sidebar shows a live countdown (e.g. "Next push in 4m" when push is in Auto). Outside your Active hours it shows "resumes 08:00" (or "resumes Mon 08:00") instead of a countdown, so you can always see why it's quiet. The Scheduling cards also show "last synced — …" and "last pushed — …" timestamps in the top-right of each card, and "Syncing…" / "Pushing…" while one is in progress.

Why isn't auto-sync (or auto-push) running right now?

Most likely you're outside your Active hours — whenever that's the case the sidebar shows "resumes 08:00" (or "resumes Mon 08:00") instead of a countdown, so you can always see why it's quiet. The moment the window opens, Relay catches up with a sync straight away rather than waiting out a full interval. If it says "paused — no days selected", every day chip in the Active hours card is off — select at least one.

My device isn't on the same Wi-Fi — does scheduling still work?

Yes. Sync still runs against the Supernote cloud on your schedule. The local device connection (same Wi-Fi) is an extra path used for things like fetching handwritten-note PDFs; it doesn't change the sync/push timing. When the device is off, the app keeps using the cloud and quietly retries finding the device.

Will a slow or failed check pile up or break the schedule?

Accepted Answer

No. The app only schedules the next check after the current one finishes, so slow checks can't stack up. If a check fails (e.g. a network blip), it waits a bit longer before retrying and gradually backs off, then returns to your normal interval once it succeeds. A check that comes back empty or incomplete is treated cautiously and ignored rather than wiping your list.

Does the schedule keep running when my Mac is asleep?

While the Mac is asleep the timer is paused. After it wakes, any check that came due during sleep runs shortly afterwards (when sync is on Auto and you're inside your Active hours), then your normal schedule resumes. Waking on its own doesn't force an extra sync — if you want to catch up instantly, press Sync now.

If I push the same task twice, does it create duplicates in my task app?

No. Pushing is a one-time hand-off — each task is pushed once and then filed in the "Pushed" folder, so neither the auto timer nor repeated "Push now" presses will re-send it. Schedule frequency only affects how soon new, not-yet-pushed tasks go out.

Does a faster push schedule re-sync completed tasks back from my task app?

Accepted Answer

No. Push is strictly one-way and one-time. Changing the push interval only changes how often newly-eligible open tasks are handed off; completing a task in your app (or here) afterwards never syncs back across, no matter how frequent the schedule.

Question 26

Why does push say "Push paused" in the sidebar?

Accepted Answer

That means you've connected apps but turned the "Push tasks" toggle off on every one of them (in the Task apps section). Your push schedule is fine, but there's no enabled destination, so nothing goes out. Re-enable an app to resume. ("Connect apps" instead means nothing is connected yet.) ---
